As many of you will already be aware the building at 146 Carrington St O’Connor, that Just Yoga as operated out of since April 2010 is to be redeveloped. As a result, Just Yoga has received an eviction notice.
For the past 2 months I have looked extensively for an alternative location to operate from. Unfortunately I have been unable to find a suitable location of the right size to run a yoga studio, with adequate accessible securely lit parking, change rooms and toilets, that is at the same time financially viable.
I have not given up though - even now I am looking and investigating every lead. However, so far none have panned out in a way that I can make a modest living and a satisfactory teaching experience for me and the learning experience for you.
The property managers have made it clear that no extension can be granted and have even shortened the notice period since having first given it. So, I must now start to prepare for the studio's closure on Sunday May 21st.
I am not sure of my future, but I hope to return to fulltime teaching in future years and plan to keep in touch with students and teaching in the meantime through weekend workshops. (More on that later).
I will not be recommending teachers or studios. I believe the yoga student teacher relationship is a personal one. You will have to find a teacher or teachers who you can be content with. But a word of advice, don’t try to replace me. Each teacher is different. Look for someone who can respect and who respects you.
I have taught many of you for several years now and whist I always thought this would be my last job unfortunately this is not to be the case. I can not express the degree of sadness this brings me. You and yoga teaching have been a big part of my later life. Until a few weeks ago I could not even think of my life without you in it as my students or me as your teacher.
I will plan a farewell get together, but I have not done so yet.
I will not be selling the studio props - I will be storing them to use at a future return to a studio. I have some new props that I will be selling such as mats, belts, blocks, blankets, shoulder stand cushions, yoga wheels and bolsters. The bolsters will be made to order.
Props Price ListWhen the studio closes you may have a valid class card with remaining unused classes. In the week following the May 21st you will receive a txt message with the dollar value of the unused classes on your card. You will be asked to forward your bank account details (BSB and Account numbers) and the value of these unused classes will be transferred to your account.
I am considering teacher monthly weekend workshops. At the moment my efforts need to be focussed on teaching the last weeks at the studio and planning for its closure so I am not able to give specific details regarding how these workshops might look or when they are. That said I would think there would be 10 workshops a year, consisting of a 3 hour morning session, a 2 hour break for lunch, followed by a 2 hour afternoon session on the Saturday and a 3 hour morning session on the Sunday.
Once I have firm the details of these weekend workshops I will contact all the students to let them know the details.
